St. Brigid’s Girls Kiminini Cancels Form One Student’s Admission Over Medical Condition

Date:

St. Brigid’s Girls High School Kiminini in Trans Nzoia county is on the spot for allegedly kicking out a form one student who was diagnosed with a medical condition.

The family of June Lokuruka is crying for justice after the school refused to re-admit their daughter on grounds that she was not mentally fit to study at the school.

According to June’s parents, their daughter fell ill and was at admitted Kiminini Cottage Hospital where she received medical attention.

Her condition did not improve forcing the doctors to refer her to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where she was diagnosed with brief psychotic episode.

She was admitted from 14 August, 2021 to 20 August, 2021 when she was discharged after she fully recovered.

June’s father Patrick Lokuruka said that they were left in shock after the principal informed them that the school’s Board of Management (BoM) sat and unanimously resolved that the girl should not be allowed back to the school.

“As much as I want her to study in her preferred school, I’m worried that she might be victimized,” Lokuruka said.

He called upon the Cabinet Secretary of Education George Magoha to intervene so that her daughter can proceed with her education.

The school’s BoM Chair Maurice Anthony Crowley said the decision was taken in the best interest of the girl, the school and other 1,500 students.

“It was resolved by the school’s BoM that it would be better for her to school from her home for the sake of her future. She should study in a day school because of her condition,” Crowley said.

Lokuruka, who comes from a needy family, scored 367 marks in the KCPE 2020 and secured a sponsor to her dream school of St. Brigid’s Girls’.

While this happens, the ministry of Education has confirmed that a total of 26,564 students who sat for KCPE 2020 have still not joined form one in 36 counties.
