A bodyguard attached to Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has lost his life after being fatally shot under unclear circumstances by an unknown assailant.
The bodyguard who has since been identified as Barack Onyango Oduor was shot dead at his home in Riat Kisumu at around 5 am.
Sources close to the opposition leader’s family said that the bodyguard was not on duty at the time of the incident.
It is alleged that the bodyguard was involved in an altercation with the unknown man before a shootout ensued at his home, which is located near the former prime minister’s residence.
Ida, who was not at her residence when the incident occurred, is however safe
Two other people, a man, and a woman, who were in the company of the deceased company were left with injuries and were rushed to hospital according to the police.
The deceased’s body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
Detectives have since launched a manhunt for the shooter who is on the run.
