Search For Raila Odinga’s Running Mate Finally Narrows Down To 3

Date:

Anxiety about who Raila Odinga will pick as his running mate continues to increase as he is set to officially announce his presidential bid on December 10th.

Raila is expected to officially launch his 2022 presidential ambition on December 10th at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna while speaking on Citizen TV was noncommittal to shed light into the running mate puzzle.

“He has not shared his thoughts yet. The issue of running mates is not a discussion of today nor the 10th because there is a lot of consideration that goes into a deputy,” said Sifuna.

However, Raila insiders who spoke to Daily Nation on condition of anonymity divulged that the search for a running mate for the ODM leader has narrowed down to three.

According to the source, Raila is warming up to Mt Kenya region with the promise of a running mate coming from the region.

Several names had been proposed as potential running mates for Raila, including; Ann Waiguru, Peter Kenneth, Peter Munya, Justin Muturi, Martha Karua and Lee Kinyanjui.

However, the source said that the search for Raila’s running mate from Mt Kenya has now been narrowed down to three people.

The three are said to be Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth, and Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui. Of the three, only Kenneth and Kinyanjui have been traversing the country with Raila for his Azimio la Umoja campaigns.

The country’s next Deputy President is set to come from the three in case Raila wins the presidency in August 9th 2022 general election.

Daily Nation also reports that Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta have offered the Nairobi Governor and National Assembly Speaker positions to One Kenya Alliance (OKA) if they agree to join them.
