S.K Macharia, Mt. Kenya Tycoons Break Silence On Election Of Ruto Just Days To His Swearing In

Date:

The Mt. Kenya Foundation has made a u-turn on the election of William Ruto just days before he officially assumes his responsibilities as the fifth president of Kenya.

In a joint statement with the Gema Cultural Association, the tycoons congratulated Ruto on his victory in the general elections and pledged to support his government.

“We take this opportunity to congratulate the president-elect and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua for their election to the presidency and we promise to support his government and pray that God will help him fulfill the vision for our great nation,” part of their statement read.

“As a father would do, we expect the president-elect will develop the country equally. All elected leaders should address the issues of drought and high cost of living that are affecting Kenyans,” they added.

The foundation also acknowledged Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua for contesting the August 9 general elections and accepting the outcome of the elections as well as president Uhuru Kenyatta for the role he played in ensuring that the country remains peaceful.

“GEMA Cultural Association further wishes to thank H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta for his stewardship of the country and acknowledge that its through the handshake of 2012 and 2018 which is the foundation of peace that we currently enjoy,” the group further said.

The Mt. Kenya Foundation made headlines in 2021 for meeting with presidential aspirants and eventually endorsing Raila. The group however did not meet with Ruto due to unknown reasons. The president-elect however also said that he would not meet with them.

Members of the foundation include; Royal Media owner S.K Macharia, Equity Bank Founder Peter Munga, Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s brother George Muhoho, James Mwangi among others.
