Ruto’s Kisii Point Man Ditches Him, Joins BBI Brigade

Date:

Deputy President William Ruto’s Kisii point man has buried the hatchet and has agreed to work with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to help him galvanize the region’s support.

On a rare occasion, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who has been close to Ruto joined his Governor James Ongwae and health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache at a service at Nyagesenda SDA on Saturday.

It is during the service that Maangi called on CS Matiang’i to bring together the Gusii Community ahead of the 2022 polls.

“We must begin to reason and work together as a community. At the opportune time, we must sit down and support one of us. Those are walking parallel must be talked to and to protect ourselves,” he said as reported by The Standard.

The deputy governor challenged DR. Matiang’i to lead the way by guiding and protecting the community.

“Our culture doesn’t allow us to undermine those that have been given the mantle to lead,” he added.

Maangi also changed his stand by declaring his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) at a time when Ruto and his allies have hinged on the disapproval side.

“The report is largely good for the country. It can never be perfect but we have a way to sit and move the country forward. The 35 percent revenue allocation to Counties is an actualization of the principle ‘funds will follow functions’,” he said according to the publication.

The Interior CS supported Maangi’s gesture saying that their relationship will help the government deliver to the people.

“Let us support the Government and work together for the benefit of our people. Am glad the Maangi has decided to work with us. Governor Ongwae has shown us the direction, let us support him, and as well support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government,” the Standard quoted the CS.

Maangi has been supporting Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. His pledge to support the government comes barely three weeks after his security detail was withdrawn.
