Deputy president William Samoei Ruto almost brought the just concluded 7th devolution conference to its knees after he failed to attend the meeting.
According to a local publication, DP William Ruto had been on Friday invited to the conference where he was allocated a special slot to officially bring to a close the event.
According to reliable sources, the governors who were determined to save the devolution conference and follow the program called DP William Ruto more than ten times only for them to end up being frustrated.
Determined to miss the event, Ruto only sent one Mr. Ken Osinde who is his chief of staff to represent him at the seventh devolution conference.
However, the governors viewed the chief of staff as insignificant in the event, prompting them to deny him an opportunity to even greet them forget about closing it on behalf of William Ruto.
As a result, the council of governors under the leadership of Embu governor Martin Wambora resorted to the former devolution cabinet secretary Hon. Eugine Wamalwa to close the ceremony. Mr. Wamalwa is currently the defense cabinet secretary.
On his side, Eugine Wamalwa while closing the seventh devolution conference confessed that he was given a last minute call to close the just concluded annual event.
“I was invited on a very short notice just yesterday (Thursday) by Governor Wambora and he told me I am required to be in Makueni immediately,” he said.
The sentiments of Ruto’s chief of staff not being allowed to close the meeting were also reiterated by Kakamega governor Wycliffe Ombetsa Oparanya who maintained that a chief of staff was too junior to address them.
“The leadership of the Council of Governors thought that this is an international conference that cannot be closed by the Chief of Staff,” Oparanya stated.
Apparently, the deputy president had spent the better part of Friday attending political rallies in a bid to popularize his candidature ahead of the 2022 general elections.
