RiftValley Regional Commissioner Mr. George Natembeya has resigned from his position and is set to join the murky world of politics.
According to sources which spoke to Sonko News, George Natembeya is set to join William Ruto’s UDA so that he can use it to go for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat.
George Natembeya shared this News on Wednesday during a press conference.
Should he join the Trans Nzoia race, then Mr. Natembeya will face off with Trans-Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Abraham Sing’oei and Maurice Bissau who are both officials at deputy president William Ruto’s office. All these leaders want to succeed the incumbent governor Mr. David Khaemba.
George Natembeya clarified that his decision to quit was informed by constant pressure from his competitors who have been urging him to resign then face them.
“My rivals have been asking me to quit office and face them in Trans Nzoia. As from Wednesday, I will hang my boots to teach them about leadership,” he said.
The controversial Rift valley commissioner becomes the first high-ranking government official to resign from office in preparation for politics.
Apparently, all civil servants eyeing the 2022 political seats are expected to tender their resignations by February 9th.
A number of cabinet secretaries and permanent secretaries in the Uhuruto Jubilee government have shown interest in seeking political offices. For instance, Devolution cabinet secretary Charles Keter recently declared his support for Deputy president William Ruto.
Keter will contest the Kericho senatorial seat under the United Democratic Alliance party (UDA).
The devolution cabinet secretary also defied president Uhuru to openly declare his support for the second in command in the looming presidential election.
“I take this opportunity to welcome to join you in welcoming our fifth President William Ruto. I thank you you for everything. I have been with the DP from 2006 and I will stay with him till he becomes the president,” he stated.
