Controversial blogger Robert Alai on Wednesday announced that he will be vying for the Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly seat.
He be vying under the Orange Democratic Movement that is led by Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga.
His sudden move came as a surprise because he had earlier on expressed intentions of going for the Nyando parliamentary seat in the August 9 general election.
Speaking to a local website, Alai said that he changed his mind after conducting a poll in Nyando and also a discussion with his party’s leaders.
“On checking those figures, I realized that the incumbent in the village uses CDF in a very strategic way to popularize themselves. By July last year, they were very popular. When it came to December, the guy unleashed the CDF and gave out a lot of gifts which changed the dynamics of the race in Nyando.
“What happened is that in January and February (2022), he used the bursary again. His ranking rose above 60 per cent. In statistics, if someone ranks above 60%, there is nothing you can do in three weeks,” he explained.
He also confirmed that he has been living in Kileleshwa for the past four years hence dispelling rumors that he currently lives in Nyayo.
Aside from that, Alai said that for the that he understands the needs of the locals ranging from the middle class to the poor and will serve them without discrimination.
Moments after his new bid became popular a screenshot of a controversial tweet on Kileleshwa that he allegedly published on December 5, 2012, surfaced on social media.
According to the screenshot, Alai wished the people of Kileleshwa harm, saying that he was down on his knees praying for that.
“I am down on my knees praying that people continue to be raped and robbed in Kileleshwa so that they will wake up to the insecurity,” read the tweet.
A report by Ghafla published on December 6,2012 also captioned the same and the report’s title read ‘Robert Alai Prays For Kileleshwa Residents to be Raped And Robbed!’. Here is the link to the full story.
The blogger has however denied the claims saying that the tweet has been manipulated by his haters to paint him negatively.
“They created the tweet and shared it…and if you check the tweet…it is not one that I had sent. Let them share, I don’t focus on what they want to achieve with such,” Alai said in a phone interview with Mpasho.
The tweet however seems to have been deleted.
