Presidential Candidate Prof. George Wajackoya Reveals Why He Puts On A Durag On His Head

Date:

Roots party leader Professor George Wajackoya is one of the chosen few who will be vying for presidency in the August 9 elections.

Wajackoya has been making headlines for the past few months because of his unique and seemingly wild manifesto.

The bhang legalization and extending the weekend from Friday agendas are what has gotten Kenyans talking on most occasions.

The presidential aspirant with his running mate Justina Wamae will be smoking bhang for the first time in their lives on the day they will be sworn in as president and deputy president respectively. According to him, he will smoke and puff to exorcise colonial demons.

“Never smoked it but will smoke it on the day I will be sworn in to exorcise demons from statehouse, where Kenyatta was buried, parliament and KICC, those colonial demons that remained, I will puff around there to remove them so that we can have a corrupt free country,” he told Citizen TV.

Wajackoya however does not plan to change his mode of dressing even if he becomes the head of state. He dresses like a Rastaman with a durag on his head. He said that the durag is a symbol of his protest against corruption in Kenya and went ahead to give a brief history of his belief in the durag.

“This in itself is a protest against corruption. When African Americans were being taken to the USA as slaves, a lot of them died in the ships, and every time one died, the others  were told to throw the dead ones in the sea but they tore the clothes the person[dead] was wearing and they always tied on their heads to know how many members died but the slave masters didn’t know.

“That was the continuity even when they settled in the US  whereby any protest they wanted to make they used a durag that’s why you see basketballers in US using a durag because the first time they constituted a game in 1817 the whites refused to play with them they protested by wearing a durag. This is a means of protest against evil, therefore I am protesting against corruption in this country,” he said.

Wajackoya said that he feels comfortable dressing like a Rastaman and only puts on suits when it is necessary like when going to court.
