The funeral of Kiamokama Ward Rep Ken Mainya was on Thursday disrupted after Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene ordered the body of the late MCA returned to the mortuary.
The police boss said it is suspected that Mainya died of Covid-19, and the way in which his funeral was conducted posed a great health risk to the mourners.
Mainya said plans to have the late MCA’s body viewed by the public at Gusii Stadium could have led to further spread of the deadly virus as there were no advance measures established to enable the mourners to adhere to the social distancing protocols.
The burial was pushed to Friday, November 13 after the body was returned to the Kisii County Referral Hospital morgue.
Mainya died in Narok on November 1, while on his way to Nairobi to seek treatment.
The Ward Rep became sick while at his home and was rushed to the Oasis Specialist Hospital in Kisii.
