One Dark Past Ghost Haunting William Kabogo’s Political Ambition

Date:

Former and first Kiambu governor William Kabogo is in the race for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the coming elections.

Kabogo failed to secure his seat during the 2017 general elections and lost it to his competitor Ferdinand Waititu.

It has however emerged that there are some things that he did in the past that could hurt his gubernatorial or rather political ambitions.

A Twitter user by the name Mukami Mungai raised concerns over one of the bills that his government proposed in a bid to collect more revenue for the county’s development projects.

“When I remember my former Governor in Kiambu William Kabogo introduced a Sh20 fee for slaughtering one chicken, I feel immeasurable pain. He is running for a political seat again,” Mukami  shared on twitter.

Responding to the concerns however, Kabogo claimed that Mukami was spreading propaganda.

“Where were you charged? Stop propaganda,” the Tujibebe party leader said.

Another Twitter user however confirmed that such a bill among others was proposed  in October 2013.

According to a report by The Standard dated October 27, 2013, other proposed  taxes included: slaughtering a cow would cost of Kshs 400 while sheep and goat would be slaughtered at a fee of Kshs150.

Market fee for the above mentioned animals according to the bill would be Kshs500 and Kshs200 respectively while that of chicken would go at Kshs30.

Aside from that, the bill proposed that a farmer would be charged Kshs4,000 for the disposal of a dead animal like a cow by the county government while  chicken would be disposed at Kshs400.

Kabogo defended the bill saying that it was the only way to bring development to the county.

According to him, the Kshs6 billion that had been allocated to Kiambu for development was only enough to pay salaries of the employees thus leaving him with no funds for development.
