Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo is on the spot for allegedly threatening Siaya nominated MCA Linda Juma.
Juma recorded as statement with the police in Yala on Monday October 4 claiming that she received death threats from the area MP after showing support to Jalango Midiwo who has shown interest on the Gem parliamentary seat in the coming general elections.
Jalango is the eldest brother of the late Jakayo Midiwo.
According to Juma, Odhiambo threatened and insulted her because of shifting her political stand.
“It’s true that Odhiambo had fronted my name to ODM for consideration of nomination after the last polls. That does not however infringe my right to support other candidates politically,” she said.
Juma said that Odhiambo had given her 20 days to change her political stand.
“The lawmaker had not only threatened my life, but also vowed to destroy my vehicle if I do not abandon Jalango in 20 days,” Juma said.
She further revealed that she campaigned and voted for the current MP in the 2017 general elections.
“I had campaigned for Odhiambo till he captured the seat in 2017, and I have been loyal to him since. Things went went out of hand last year when I declined to join him in fighting Governor Cornel Rasanga,” Juma stated.
The MCA said that she had been trailed on two occasions by strange vehicles whose occupants warned her to disengage from Midiwo.
She further alleges that Odhiambo warned her through a phone conversation to tread carefully politically, or else she faces dire consequences.
Officers of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Gem have launched an investigation against Odhiambo over the death threats and intimidation allegations.
Siaya Police Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed at the statement was recorded.
