William Ruto was in shock and denial after his convoy was pelted with stones in Nyeri where it was thought that he enjoys enormous support.
Ruto’s convoy was stoned by rowdy mobs in Naromoru town, Kieni constituency on September 5th during his campaign trail.
While addressing resident at a different location within Kieni constituency, Ruto claimed the irate youth were paid to attack his convoy.
Ruto’s allies started a campaign to boycott Citizen TV after the station covered the chaotic scene in Naromoru where the DP’s convoy was stoned by angry youth.
Raila Odinga visited Kieni on September 27th and surprisingly he was accorded a warm reception to the surprise of everyone.
Thousands turned up to welcome Raila causing panic within Ruto’s camp as his allies from Mount Kenya had spend years spreading Railaphobia in the region.
Well, Kieni MP Kanini Kega has since come out to explain why Raila was accorded warm welcome in his constituency while Ruto was stoned.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro FM, Kanini Kega said that Ruto did not notify him that he was coming to his constituency and this could be the reason why the masses were hostile. He however distanced himself with the violence that was witnessed on that day.
“Whenever a presidential candidate is visiting Kieni, they first notify me via a phone call. I then make arrangements to ensure that everything is in order. William Ruto and his group did not notify me that they were coming and this may inform the reason why his convoy was pelted. He was trying to use the backdoor. Those who have been linking me with violence are just trying to smear my name with mud. I’m an ambassador of peace,” said Kanini Kega.
On the other hand, Kega noted that Raila notified him of his visit and that is why he was warmly welcomed. He added that Musalia Mudavadi and Gideon Moi have also visited Kieni and there was no violence witnessed because they had notified him.
