NYS announces nationwide recruitment from November 2nd to 6th

The National Youth Service(NYS) has announced that shall kick off its annual nationwide recruitment that from November 2nd to November 6th.

The paramilitary organization has urged youth in all the 47 counties who are interested in joining the service to turn out in large numbers for recruitment.

In an advertisement in a local daily, the organization stated that all prospective candidates be aged between 18 and 26 years must be Kenyan citizens willing to offer voluntary service in any part of the country. Consequently, they must be ready to undergo rigorous physical training.

The service pointed out that orphans who meet the required qualifications will be given first priority subject to production of sufficient documentary proof.

NYS was established in 1964 to train young people on key national issues.

In 2019, the organization was transformed from a state department to a fully-fledged semi-autonomous state corporation after the enactment of the NYS act, 2018 by Parliament.

 

 

Its core mandate is to train and mentor Kenya’s youth through paramilitary and regimentation, National building programs, Technical and vocational training in various skills and trades.

Below are the requirements one must meet to join the National Youth Service.

1. You must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective sub-County of recruitment centre.
2. You must be ready to undergo medical check-up during and after recruitment.
3. You must be prepared to give voluntary service to the Nation in any part of Kenya.
4. You must be prepared to undergo extreme physical training.
5. You must be a KCSE certificate holder with a minimum mean grade of D+
6. You must produce an original National Identity Card, Academic Certificates and avail one set of photocopies of the same.
7. You must have a valid certificate of Good Conduct
8.  You must be 18 – 22 years old.

Note: Orphans who meet the above qualifications are always given special preference subject to production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death Certificates or burial permits.

Upon recruitment, successful candidates report at the NYS Colleges in  Gilgil or Naivasha for the NYS Basic Paramilitary training on dates and times specified in respective calling letters.
