Naomi Kiamba: How A Kenyan Court Led My Daughter To Her Grave

Date:

Naomi Kiamba, a middle-aged woman based in Nairobi, has narrated how her 6-year old daughter lost her life in the hands of her father.

Kiamba, who is also a gospel musician, was married to the father of her two children, a boy and girl, for 7 years. She got married at the age of 21 years just after clearing her college.

The move was disputed by her parents but she however was so in love to reason about the consequences of her actions.

Their first year of marriage was perfect but when her son came into their lives things took a turn. Being a good Christian wife, she wanted to protect her marriage and she stayed in it as long as she could.

“I entered marriage on April 17,2010. I believed in marriage, all I wanted was to settle down and start a family and serve God well in a good marriage but things didn’t turn out that way,” she told Plug TV.

According to her, husband started changing, he would come home late and never go for leaves even though his workplace had the provision.

The husband also had some strange behavior and would talk to things she would not see but he would threaten her not to tell anybody or else she would be killed. Aside from that, he  did not want her to pursue her education and he was also involved romantically with an older woman. To make matters worse, he threatened that he would take her children away from her and that happened.

The children were taken away from her after she attempted suicide due to depression and got hospitalized. After being discharged, the man took her back to her parents home and she never knew how she would be able to see her children again.

Kiamba was however called back to Nairobi for a job and used the opportunity to try to see her children but she was chased away by the husband.

She was forced to go to court to get custody of the children. By then her ex-husband was living with an older woman who was mistreating her children.

“I went to court to apply for custody of my two children. I was referred to many processes to confirm that I am mentally fine to take care of my children and eventually the court ordered that I be given access to the children. I would spend the weekend with them and return them on Sunday,” Kiamba recounted.

The man however got tired of the procedures and one Sunday he never showed up to pick the children. He however later used that as an excuse in court and claimed he had been denied access to his children.

“My kids used to complain, especially my daughter, she would say that they were beaten, they were really traumatized. In October 2019, I was served with a court order telling me to present the kids in court. He went to say that he has not seen his children for two years and he was pleading with the court to help him get the children for the holiday,” she narrated.

That was the last time she ever saw her daughter alive since the court ruled in his favor despite all evidence, including the children’s mental reports, showing that he was not the right person to have the children. The children were taken away and he hid them at a place that she never found them. She spent all of her money looking for her children, the police helped but all was in vain only for her to receive a call 10 months later, informing that her daughter was dead.

“I received a call one night on August 4, 2020, from my ex husband, around 10 pm. He told me that we had lost our daughter,” she recalled.

She demanded to know what had happened to her daughter and she was told that she developed pneumonia and he rushed her to the hospital but she did not make it.

When Kiamba went to the mortuary where her daughter’s body was lying it was evident that she had been murdered. She said that the girl had marks on her body and an autopsy confirmed the same.

“It was like she had been strangled, her tongue was out and there was foam on her mouth, I took photos of her, I prayed for her and left. The post-mortem confirmed that she had murdered, sexually abused multiple times , her two knees ad been broken, the number of marks that were on her body are just countless.” Kiamba said.

Despite all that evidence those suspected to have led to the daughter’s death are still free and no action has been taken against them.
