Mutula Kilonzo Openly Declares His Thirst For Lusaka’s Speaker Seat

Date:

During the Monday heated debate at the senate, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr called on Speaker Ken Lusaka to resign and so that he could step in and guide the House.

“This is a good time to resign, I can sit there,” the Senator told the speaker.

Mutula’s sentiments came after Senator Yusuf Haji said the Cabinet Secretaries who were asked to appear before the senate claimed that they were still on leave.

“They’ve sent an SMS and one of the officers at the office of the CS did inform us that the CS is on 10-day leave which was given by the President, therefore he was not available,” Yusuf said.

“And by extension, the PS, the IG, and the DCI cannot come without being accompanied by the minister. Therefore the committee decided to report accordingly. Mr. Speaker, you can give us further direction.”

But the Makueni Senator asked speaker Lusaka to be wise and end the sitting with some lawmakers having been arrested.

No cash for counties as Lusaka adjourns special sitting to debate ...

“You have the powers. I hear a rumor that you are under pressure, pressure from who? Did God call you this afternoon,” Kilonzo questioned.

But Lusaka interjected into Kilonzo’s statement saying he was not under any pressure from anybody.

“.. it is good that you said it is a rumor… I am not under pressure,” he said.

A seemingly angry Kilonzo added that the Cabinet Secretaries treated Kenyans with contempt.

Mutula further said the Senate would not live to its knees and if the speaker proceeded with the seating then chaos would erupt in the House.

“We cannot proceed when senators are being taken across the country on the highway,” he said.

“This is not a laughing matter. We must speak as a Senate. Enforce your direction, my speaker. You are not an inferior person to the CS,” he added.

According to Kilonzo, a narrative had been created in the Senate and the matter was astonishing.

“…the devil is ruling this chamber. Three people, those are not three votes. I cannot debate anything without the three,” he said.

“Mr. Speaker, I pity your decision today.”

Mutula’s sentiment comes just a few weeks when he threatened Lusaka with an impeachment motion after he adjourned debate on the revenue sharing formula at the Senate.
