Multimedia University Students Stage Protests After Hyena Attacked Their Colleague

Date:

Learning activities at Multimedia University were on Tuesday morning disrupted after students staged a demonstration after one of their colleagues was attacked by a hyena.

The students blocked Magadi Road, burning tyres, as they protested over the incident while demanding for answers from the Kenya Wildlife Service

Kelvin Mwenda, a second-year student aged 21 was attacked on Monday night at around 8pm.

“He was coming from school heading to his place in Rongai at around 8 pm when the incident happened. The hyena also bit one side of his face.

“His eye is covered. We are not sure if his other eye is okay because he is covered on one side of the face,” Kenya University Student Organisation President Jesse Saruni and further called upon KWS to take necessary action to guarantee the safety of the students.

You can not be sleeping in your job while our comrades are being mauled by hyenas left right and center. Kama kazi imewashinda we will form a task force to talk to the hyenas as you advised. We will talk to them in a language they will understand,” Saruni added.

According to the police report Mwenda was attacked by the hyena along Maasai Lodge Road.

Stephen Somo, a resident in the area, came to his rescue but also sustained severe injuries in the process.

“The two are currently receiving treatment at Wema Nursing Home,” police said.
