Amani National Congress (ANC) has threatened to walk out of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) coalition if their leader Musalia Mudavadi is not named the ticket flag-bearer in December.
While speaking on Saturday in Kakamega county, a number of ANC members of parliament under the leadership of Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala demanded that the OKA must name their flag-bearer prior to Christmas Day.
Failure to name a flag-bearer by December 25th would make them dump the One Kenya Alliance(OKA) for other options.
They went ahead to issue an ultimatum that their party leader Musalia Mudavadi must be named the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) flagbearer since they would not take anything less.
“We are telling our colleagues at the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) that we want to know the presidential candidate of the coalition by December 25.
“If we won’t have known the presidential candidate who we know is Musalia Mudavadi, then we, as ANC, will decide to leave and form another alliance to deliver the presidency for Musalia Mudavadi in 2022,” said Butere MP Tindi Mwale.
On his side, Lurambi member of parliament Titus Khamala reiterated those sentiments by affirming that they don’t want a coalition that would send their leader packing.
“We, in the ANC, do not want Musalia to be sent packing. We do not want the One Kenya Alliance to be the Coalition through which Musalia is sent packing indefinitely. We want to know our candidate immediately,” said Khamala.
On his side, senator Malala insisted that the coalition ought to hasten the process of coming up with a coalition leader since there was no luxury of time.
“Kenyans want to know who will be the president and who will be the deputy,” he said.
One Kenya Alliance has four principles namely Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula, KANU Chairman and Baringo senator Gideon Moi, Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi. The four have so far been joined by Cyrus Jirongo.
In the meantime, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi recently for the first time sided with deputy president William Samoei Ruto with regards to the types of leaders Kenyans must have.
Musalia Mudavadi reiterated William Ruto’s sentiments that they would not allow the republic of Kenya to have imposed leadership.
As a result, he maintained that citizens must be allowed to freely elect their leaders without external influence from anybody.
The ANC party leader added that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) must be given more time in a bid to enable them carry out their activities towards a free and fair election.
“Thank you Kakamega! OKA has the alternative genuine and trusted leadership that is committed to the wellbeing of our country. We shall not allow Kenyans to have imposed leadership. Kenyans should be allowed to choose a leader of their choice in an environment of peace and security.
I urge the MPs to allow a supplementary budget to give the IEBC more money to do a second round of voter registration and also be able to carry out its activities that will give us free and fair elections in 2022.”
OKA has been having an uphill task on settling on their flag-bearer which has seen them take abnormally longer to agree on such an issue. Words have been going rounds that already the three principals cannot agree on who would lead the coalition since each one of them wants to the the leader.
