Mike Sonko Comes To The Aid Of A needy Student Despite Being Broke

Date:

Few days ago former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko hit headlines when he requested the court to refund him the money he paid as bail in a corruption case against him.

Through an application to court, Sonko wanted to exchange the Ksh15 million with his three high end cars claiming that he was broke and he needed the money to be able to take care of his responsibilities as a father.

“I am asking the court to be allowed to deposit security in place of the cash bail to enable me access the money for purposes of attending to my health, paying school fees for my children, pay my lawyers and cater for my daily needs and those of my family,” reads Sonko’s application.

However on Thursday, Sonko has proved that he is not that broke as he claimed to be.

This is after he offered to pay school fees for a 15-year old girl who took to the streets of Nairobi seeking help to raise the fees.

“Please help me with school fees,” the placard poster that the girl was armed with read.

Mellan Njeri, a Form Two student at Kihumbu-ini Secondary School in Murang’a County made rounds at the Nairobi’s Central Business District so as to catch attention of well-wishers.

Njeri said that she was sent out of school on September 10 over Kshs29, 177 arrears.

Taking to his social media, Sonko expressed interest in paying the needy girl’s school fees.

“I have the money right now in my phone, I need the school’s paybill so that we sort her right now plus a small pocket money so that life can move on today. Tomorrow is another day,” Sonko’s post read.

He however complained of his past experiences in helping needy students.

“In as much as we always like chipping in to help in such needy cases, it is good that the issue of parents/guardians putting their personal Mpesa numbers instead of schools’ paybill is addressed,” Sonko stated.

“I’m not saying this a fake case but I have dealt with bizarre incidents while helping the needy,” he added.
