Martha Karua has turned out to be the biggest loser after Raila Odinga failed in his fifth attempt in vying for the presidency.
Karua would have become the first ever female Deputy President in the country but the hope to make that history quickly diminished after William Ruto was announced the fifth president of Kenya. A section of Kenyans have however not restrained themselves from mocking her with her past incidents.
One mistake that Karua previously made was to mock Ruto when he was captured in an emotional mood during a prayer session in Karen on August 2. The DP was literally in tears thus causing mixed reaction among Kenyans.
Commenting on the matter Karua slammed Ruto saying that not all that call the name of Jesus will enter the kingdom of God.
“People should stop claiming that they are Christians. Let me explain, with the holy book, Bible, Jesus said not everyone calls Jesus, Jesus will enter the kingdom of heaven. Christianity is not a name, not going to church and not even tears. Let your Christianity proclaim itself. Not going to advertise. And know, Jesus Christ has no deputy on earth,” she said in a political rally at Bukhungu stadium on August 3.
Another issue is about her reaction to the handshake between Raila and Uhuru Kenyatta and the rise of BBI. Karua clearly stated that the move was not about peace for the country but about power. According to her it was a tool that Uhuru intended to use so that he continues being in power.
“It’s all about power. Power by whichever means including tribalism, corruption, violence at any cost, including mutilating the Constitution and eroding all the political gains we have made since 1992,” she said in an interview in March last year.
Karua strongly opposed the handshake and BBI yet when she was offered the position of a running mate after joining Azimio, she did not think twice about accepting the position. She accepted to be part of something that she strongly believed was wrong.
Aside from that, Karua is allegedly said to have made some demeaning remarks about Raila and him gaining support in the mountain. Unverified reports claimed that Karua said it will not be easy for Raila to gain support in the region even by Uhuru’s influence, which has been proved in the recent general elections.
“I Am Not a prophet but I don’t see the magic that Uhuru will deploy to make Raila Odinga win in the Mountain. You can’t polish an iron metal that has taken 40+ years to rust by one day,” Martha Karua allegedly said.
Karua however dispelled the reports saying that she did not make such remarks about Raila through her official twitter account.
