Machogu Announces Second Chance For Students Who Missed Final KCPE Exams

Date:

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu released the results of the final KCPE on Thursday morning at Mitihani House in South B.

Machogu announced that the top candidate scored 428 marks out of 500.

He also revealed that out of the over 1 million students who registered for the 2023 exam, 9, 354 failed to sit for the exam.

The ministry of education is however offering the affected students a second chance, to ensure that they don’t lose an opportunity of joining secondary school.

“To ensure that no candidate misses out in joining Form One from the final 2023 KCPE examination cohort, the Ministry of Education will conduct through mapping of any of those who may have failed to sit their examination this year in order to administer a Special Exam in January 2024,” Machogu said.

“The council shall organize for KCPE candidates who had registered but were unable to sit their exams, to do so after 30 days,” KNEC CEO David Njeng’ere said on the other hand.

The 2023 KCPE is the final as the country fully transitions to the Competency-Based Curriculum from the 8-4-4 education system.

The 8-4-4 system was introduced in 1985, marking the beginning of KCPE and KCSE exams.

KCPE has since been replaced with Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

Since its inception, 39 cohorts have sat for the exam.

“Since inception, the KCPE Examination has been offered to over 26,316,037 candidates in the last 39 years. The candidature has been diverse, with candidates of refugee status and other non-citizens within Kenya sitting the examination,” Njeng’ere said.
