TikTok Gifts, Their Costs & How Kenyans Are Earning Thousands

Over the recent days, there have been discussions about regulating content shared on social media platform TikTok with some proposing disabling the live feature in the country.

The push was attributed to a number of content shared on the platform considered immoral and thus eroding Kenya’s cultural values.

Acting on Kenyans concerns, President William Ruto held a meeting with TikTok management to discuss how to regulate content shared.

But despite the threats and push, some content creators continued risking just for the gifts shared on the platform.

Brian Chira, a renowned content creator claimed that he makes at least Ksh100,000 for a single live session. The money is accumulated from gifts shared by some of his viewers.

Another content creator Njoki Murira disclosed that she earned close to Ksh3 million from Tiktok making the social media platform famous and the most sought in the country.

Reuters, a media publication noted that TikTok was among the most used social media platform in the country.

What are the Gifts and Equivalent Monetary Values

TikTok also has its own donation system which allows users to send their favorite creators real money in the form of ‘gifts’ which can be bought with TikTok coins.

However, the creators will have to be on a Live in order for people to send them gifts.

Each virtual gift costs a different amount of coins, so naturally, if you want to donate more money to your favorite creator, you would send them a more expensive gift.

The highest price is TikTok star which is equivalent to Ksh77,840.38 (USD 532.06).

Love letter: 1 ($0.01)- Ksh1.46

Football: 1 ($0.01)- Ksh1.46

TikTok logo: 1 ($0.01)- Ksh1.46

I love you: 49 ($0.65)- Ksh95.10

Ruby red: 88 ($1.17)- Ksh171.17

Origami: 99 ($1.31)- Ksh191.65

Hat and mustache: 99 ($1.31) – Ksh191.65

Makeup Box: 1999 ($26.58)- Ksh3,888.65

Lion: 29,999 ($398.95) – Ksh58,366.38.

There are over 100 gifts on TikTok each with a different monetary value. For one to gift, they must buy coins offered on the platform.
