Lamu Politician Living In Fear After Being Assaulted By Senator Anwar Loitiptip

Date:

A politician who was allegedly assaulted by Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip last week has opened up days after the incident.

32-year old Francis Mugo says that following the incident, he now fears for his life and is forced to get home as early as possible.

“I am a married man and a father of three. My family was and is still very worried about how I was attacked. Actually, my family fears for my life. I’m now forced to be in the house latest 6:30 pm,” Mugo said.

Speaking exclusively to K24 digital, Mugo, who is also eyeing the Lamu senatorial seat through UDA’s ticket,  said that he has never reached out to the senator since the incident.

Lotiptip is said to have assaulted Mugo moments after DP William Ruto boarded his flight out of the county.

According to Mugo, the senator also threatened to drown him in the Indian Ocean and forcefully left with his phone.

The incident was reported to the police station at the Lamu Central Police Station and recorded under OB number 26/19/10/2021.

“I paid all my hospital bills and also bought another phone since he could not stay without one,” he said.

He however said that he will support Loitiptip only if he beats him in the UDA’s party preliminaries.

“I’m his competitor in the senatorial race and I have a big following. That is all I know and I’m sure I will beat him,” he said.

He said that a number of people reached out to him to run for the position before he finally made the decision.

“It is time people get someone who can promote their aspirations and this is one of the reasons I believe I’m a suitable candidate,” he said.

He further said that the youths in Lamu are struggling to even get jobs at the Lamu port and questioning how money in the county is being spent.

Mugo is currently pursuing law at the University of London and also possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Accounts from the Technical University of Mombasa.
