Ezra Kipkorir Koech succumbed to his injuries a day after he stabbed and killed first year Laikipia University student Gertrude Chepkoech who was his girlfriend’s roommate.
Gertrude died on the spot after she was stabbed multiple times by Ezra who sneaked into her hostel room which she shared with her killer’s girlfriend.
Ezra turned the knife on himself in a bid to commit suicide after killing Gertrude, he stabbed himself in the stomach exposing his intestines, and also added another knife to his chest.
Other students broke into the room after hearing loud yells only to find Gertrude lying dead in a pool of blood and Ezra gasping for air.
The irate students pounced on Ezra with all manner of crude weapons at their disposal, he was however saved by police and rushed to the hospital before he could be lynched to death.
Ezra succumbed to his injuries at Nyahururu hospital, he had deep cut in his stomach, his throat was slit and he also suffered many injuries inflicted by the mob.
“He succumbed to serious head injuries he sustained from the beating…The injuries were very severe,” said hospital administrator Thomas Kiptoo.
The hospital management is still waiting for Ezra’s family to claim his body which lay at the mortuary. He had been booked as an unknown male adult.
Meanwhile the motives for Gertrude’s murder has also been revealed, apparently Ezra killed her after he was convinced that she was the obstacle in his relationship with his with his estranged girlfriend.
It was reported that Ezra learnt that Gertrude ‘incited’ his girlfriend to break up with him and he vowed to teach her a lesson for intruding into their relationship.
Ezra had not intended to stab Gertrude, he sneaked into the hostel to kill his girlfriend for breaking up with him but when he found Gertrude instead he unleashed his anger at her.
