Belgut MP Nelson Koech made a humble appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta as Laikipia University student Getrude Chepkoech Chepkirui was laid to rest.
Getrude was stabbed to death on early noon of 29th Sept 2021 at Laikipia University hostel by Ezra Kipkorir Koech who also died later.
20-year-old Gertrude died on the spot after she was stabbed multiple times by Ezra who sneaked into her hostel room which she shared with her killer’s girlfriend.
Ezra turned the knife on himself in a bid to commit suicide after killing Gertrude, he stabbed himself in the stomach exposing his intestines, and also added another knife to his chest.
Other students broke into the room after hearing loud yells only to find Gertrude lying dead in a pool of blood and Ezra gasping for air.
The irate students pounced on Ezra with all manner of crude weapons at their disposal, he was however saved by police and rushed to the hospital before he could be lynched to death.
Ezra killed Gertrude after he was convinced that she was the obstacle in his relationship with his with his estranged girlfriend.
It was reported that Ezra learnt that Gertrude ‘incited’ his girlfriend to break up with him and he vowed to teach her a lesson for intruding into their relationship.
The slain Laikipia University student was laid to rest on Thursday October 7th at her parents’ home in Chebirirbir, Belgut, Kericho County.
A somber mood engulfed the village during the burial as Getrude was eulogized as a hard-working, disciplined and honest young woman.
Several leaders including Belgut Constituency Member of Parliament Nelson Koech and Kabianga Ward Member of County Assembly were among those who attended Gertrude’s final send-off.
“I called on government to be proactive in saving the lives of our people. The spate of senseless killings in our midst is truly heartbreaking and needs a wholesome intervention from the society, government and even the church,” said Belgut MP.
