Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed votes from Ukambani region as being inconsequential to a presidential contender.
A video clip of Gachagua disparaging Ukambani voters has gone viral on social media just as Raila Odinga is heading to Makueni constituency.
In the clip, the Mathira MP said Ukambani votes are just a few to make any major impact on the presidential race.
Gachagua who was addressing a crowd said that Makueni, Machakos and Kitui counties had a combined 1.5 million votes which he dismissed as ‘too little’.
The controversial legislator asked the crowd he was addressing if 1.5 million votes could help any presidential aspirant.
“Wacha tuongee ukweli… kura ya Kitui, Makueni, Machakos 1.5 million. Sasa 1.5 million kuna pahali inaweza enda?(Let us speak the truth. Kitui, Makueni and Machakos have 1.5 million combined votes. Where can 1.5 million votes take someone?)” Gachagua posed.

The video went viral at a time Ruto’s fiercest rival Raila Odinga takes Azimio La Kenya tour to Ukambani region.
The ODM leader is expected in Wote, Makueni county on Friday November 12th to drum up support for his 2022 presidential bid.
The region’s three governors; Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Prof Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) are expected to accompany Raila as he traverse Makueni county.
The trio met Raila on Thursday to lay final touches to his campaign trail in Makueni, the former Prime Minister is set to hold rallies at several stopovers during his tour.
Apart of Raila, Ruto too has also campaigned in Makueni at least twice in recent days. It’s ironical that the DP’s close ally Gachagua could term Ukambani votes as inconsequential yet Ruto himself is visiting Ukambani to woo voters.
