Parents Of Kakamega Boys’ High School To Pay Dearly For Their Sons’ Mistakes

Parents of Kakamega Boys High School will cater for the damages that the school incurred during theĀ  November 6 fire.

According to a notice by the school’s management, parents and guardians will have to pay a total of Kshs21.6 million.

“ā€œAs per the Ministry of Transport Infrastructure Housing, Urban development and Public Works report on the burnt dormitory, the Bill of Quantities done as per assessment by the public works officer stands at Sh12,185,540,”

ā€œThe cost of the CCTV installation in the buildings is estimated at Ksh 695, 429 while the cost of 280 double-decker beds is Ksh4,194,400,ā€ the notice stated.

ā€œThe grand total of the damages is Ksh21,611,360. Divided by the total number of students which is 2200,ā€ the notice further read.

Each student will now be required to pay Kshs9,823 as costs for damages.

Principal Gerald Orina also announced that learning will resume in phases. Form four students are expected to report to school on November 15, Form ones on November 21, Form twos on November 23 and form threes on November 25.

The school will provide mattresses and blankets for students who lost their items in the fire.

No casualties were reported during the incident as students were already in class for the early morning preps.

Students have also been advised to clear outstanding fee balances before reporting back to school

ā€œAll outstanding fees and arrears up to the second term, 2021 must be cleared in full. Avail all the bank slips on opening day,” Orina said.

This comes as both primary and secondary schools prepare to break for half term on November 19.

More than 30 schools have been closed indefinitely following the fire incidents with fingers pointing towards education CS George Magoha.

Experts are also pushing for Open Forum in schools so that students can discuss their issues with teachers before resolving destructive measures.
