Khalwale Bashes Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi For Skipping Senate Grilling

Date:

Prime CS and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi failed to appear before the Senate on Wednesday to respond to questions from senators.

Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir and Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u were also to appear before the House by they were a no-show.

In Mudavadi’s case, he informed the Senate via a letter on Wednesday morning that he would not be available since he is outside the country.

Ndung’u on the other hand was engaged with the COP28 activites while Chirchir is in Dubai.

Their move angered senators and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwalwe used the opportunity to go after Mudavadi.

“Mr Speaker, from your communication, the Prime Cabinet Secretary has alerted the Senate this morning. It should also occur to this house that this is not the first time the Prime CS has failed to appear before this House,” he said, adding that,

“If this does not imply attitude, then what does? The CS has an attitude about this house. He thinks that the house is waiting for him and this morning, it discovers that he is not around.”

According to him, Mudavadi had enough time to inform the Senate that he would not appear before it.

Khalwale further said that Mudavadi was treating Kenyans unfairly by failing to honor summons.

“He had a 7-day window during which he knew he was travelling. He should have informed us. This is now the time to sanction the Prime CS so that he respects the house of equity that represents the 47 counties of Kenya,” he added.

He also said, by failing to honor summons, CSs are now turning the Senate into a mockery.

Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna on the other hand noted the action by CSs had become a habit while nominated senator Gloria Orwoba wondered why they were too busy to respond to questions from Kenyans.
“What else are the CSs busy doing that they cannot come here to answer questions that Kenyans are asking? I was looking forward to engaging the Energy CS,” Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba said.
