Date:

Health CAS Rashid Aman announced that Kenya’s confirmed Covid-19 cases have risen to 607 after 25 more people tested positive for the virus out of the 632 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

Dr. Aman announced this during the daily Covid-19 briefing on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Afya House, adding that 7 more had been discharged bringing the total recoveries to 197.

“I am equally saddened to announce that we have lost three other patients. 2 are from Nairobi and 1 from Mombasa. This takes the number of lives lost to 29,” CAS Aman announced.

21 of the new confirmed cases are males while 4 are female and are between the ages of 8 and 73.

Of the 25 cases, 22 are Kenyans, 1 Ugandan, 1 from Tanzania, and 1 Chinese national.

The cases are spread across the country as follows; Nairobi recorded 17 cases, 2 from Wajir, 2 from Kajiado, and 1 each from Mombasa, Migori, Isiolo and Nakuru.

Cases in Nairobi are spread as follows; Eastleigh has 9 cases, parklands 1, Juja road 1, Kawangware 2, Umoja 1, South C 1. The 1 case from Mombasa was from Likoni while the single case from Nakuru was from Solai.

The health CAS revealed that many individuals were asymptomatic, thus urging Kenyans to make an assumption that each and everyone is infected so as to curb further spread of the virus.

He warned members of the public in the locked-down areas of Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate and Mombasa’s Old Town against sneaking away from the regions.

Aman stated that the areas had not been locked by design, but because they are hotspot areas that need to be monitored.

“I, therefore, urge Kenyans to report any person who sneaks from these areas,” CAS Aman appealed, further noting the activities in the area would remain closed until normalcy is regained.
