Kenya Red Cross Rescues 23 After Boat Full of People Capsizes

Date:

Kenya Red Cross has only managed to rescue 23 people after a boat full of people capsized.

The rescue operation was carried out overnight and only 23 people were saved from the raging water.

“23 people have been rescued and are currently receiving care at Madogo Hospital, while others are still missing,” Kenya Red Cross announced.

The exact number of people on the ill-fated boat is still unknown but the rescue operation is still in place to try and find the rest of the people.

“A boat carrying a large number of people has capsized at Kona Punda while heading to Mororo. Our teams from Garissa and Tana River County are currently responding to the situation,” Kenya Red Cross had earlier announced.

From videos shared online, the boat was sailing across the swollen Tana River and could be seen being swept by the raging waters before it capsized.

Residents waiting by the roadside to be ferried watched helplessly as the boat capsized.

Some of the passengers in the boat tried to swim in the raging floods, with water overwhelming them.
