24 new cases of COVID-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours

24 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, taking the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 435. While issuing the daily Covid-19 presser at Afya House on Saturday, May 2, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi announced that 1,925 individuals had been tested for the virus over the last 24 hours.

Of the 24 cases,10 are men, 14 are female.

“7 cases are from Kawangware, 10 from Eastleigh, 5 from Mombasa and 2 from Kuria West (Migori County) who had recently travelled to Tanzania,” the CAS stated.

Mwangangi added that the number of those who had recovered were 2, bringing the total number to 152.

Sadly, the CAS announced that one more person had lost her life bringing the number to 22. The new fatality a 51-year-old woman in Mombasa who was admitted to hospital on April 27, 2020.

Mwangangi also stated that the ministry was also reviewing home-based care quarantine mechanisms.

“We shall soon be able to issue specific guidelines as to how this shall be undertaken and it is important to note the success of home-based care is highly pegged on our discipline as Kenyans and corporation in ensuring that we adhere to this guidelines,” she stated.

The CAS further cautioned businesses that had resumed work saying that “the disease is still with us”.

She reminded Kenyans that businesses caught flouting government directives set to curb the spread of the disease risked having their licences revoked.

Mwangangi noted that there had been a decline in the number of patients who sought medical help in hospitals for other illnesses.
She asked citizens not to be afraid to seek medical help.
