JKIA Bags Prestigious Continental Award

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is this year’s recipient of Africa Environmental and Sustainable Development (ESD) Awards.

JKIA was honored for it’s remarkable efforts in combating wildlife trafficking.

“Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is thrilled to announce that Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi has been honored for its remarkable efforts in combatting wildlife trafficking.

This recognition was conferred at the ACI Africa Environmental and Sustainable Development (ESD) Awards, held during the recently concluded ACI Africa Conference and Exhibition in Dakar, Senegal, ” the statement read in part.

The ACI Africa ESD Awards serve as a testament to JKIA’s dedication to environmental management, acknowledging its role in promoting sustainable aviation. 

By engaging actively in wildlife protection initiatives, JKIA has demonstrated its commitment to mitigating the environmental impact of airport activities.

“We take immense pride in JKIA’s achievement, a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. This recognition serves as a powerful motivator, inspiring us to enhance our initiatives and make substantial contributions to the global pursuit of eco-friendly aviation,” stater KAA MD, Henry Ogoye, while commenting on the recognition.

The awards, emphasizing the importance of environmental management in airport business performance, encourage airports to showcase their green initiatives to the wider aviation community.

JKIA, recognized under the Large-Sized Airport Category, stood out among its peers.

The recognition at the ACI Africa ESD Awards highlights JKIA’s proactive measures in biodiversity and wildlife protection, along with its impactful community actions and awareness campaigns.
