Bishop Stuart University, Uganda directed students to adhere to the University’s dress code, something that has caused an uproar in social media.
In a notice, the dean of students Reverend Muhangi Francis told the students that they will not be allowed in the university premises, lecture rooms, offices and chapel with certain dress codes effective December 2, 2021.
According to the memo, men and boys will not be allowed in the mentioned places if they would be donning sandals, damaged jeans/trousers, shorts, braided/plaited hairstyles, tattoos, piercing/earrings and uncombed hair.
On the other hand, their female counterparts were asked not to wear miniskirts and dresses, mini pants, damaged trousers and jeans and tattoos.
“And any wear that is unacceptable by the university regulations and guidelines for students, 2018, chapter 2 section 5,” Rev. Muhangi further said in the memo.
The matter has caused mixed reactions with some questioning why the institution would direct students on what to wear.
Chris Dangote asked, “Is it a university or a kindergarten??? Asking.”
“Chris, do you wear damaged jeans to the office at your workplace? Do you go to your work in a bank, school with plaited hair as a man? If you do not then why do so at school? BSU is training people for the workplace. Bravo BSU,” Naboth Namara answered him.
Leo Nasasira wrote, “This is a university turned church school.”
“@RevMuhangi Francis a small reminder BSU ain’t ur home ,ur daughter or son . Xo sit down be humble mhn. Stop treating mature gents and ladies like secondary and primary kids,” Arya Ijuka’s comment read.
