The family of Nakuru doctor suspected of killing his two kids has expressed doubt that Dr. James Gakara took the lives of his children aged five and three and then attempted suicide.
Gakara’s elder sister Mary Nyagathii who addressed the press at Nakuru Level Five Hospital said the accounts given by those who visited the scene had many gaps in it.
Police said Gakara was alone with the kids when he murdered them but his sister insists there were other people in the house.
Nyaguthii said that on the fateful day, there were other persons who were in the home and they should also be questioned.
“We have some persons of interest who are yet to give an account of what happened. Dr. Gakara was rarely alone with his children as it has been alleged. We hope that those yet to record statements will shed light on the matter,” said Nyaguthii.
Nakuru West Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer Stephen Ambani said that Gakara sent the house help to his other house leaving him alone with the two children in the house.
Gakara’s wife was away in Nairobi that fateful Saturday September 18th that he is alleged to have murdered their children before he attempted suicide.
The wife returned to Nakuru from Nairobi on Sunday and was admitted at Rift Valley Annex Hospital where she was taken ill after she suffered shock over the incident. She was discharged on Monday.
Gakara’s sister further described him as a loving father figure in his family who jealously protected his two children.
“My brother was at the best stage in his life. He greatly loved his children. What happened is still like a bad dream to us. I believe that the only person who can give answers on what happened is Gakara himself. He is still unconscious and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is under police custody at the facility,” said Nyaguthii.
Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri said police were alerted by neighbors who heard commotion at Gakara’s house.
“We received a tip-off from the public that there was a commotion in a nearby house along Milimani area. We immediately dashed to the scene and found the lifeless bodies of the two children in the house. Their father was still breathing,” Police boss Kiraguri said.
Now here is what’s puzzling, police say the broke into the house and found Gakara and the kids alone. The doctor’s family said there were other people in the house with him at the time based on accounts told to them by neighbors who heard commotion in the house.
Who are these mysterious people that police didn’t find, why did Gakara kill his children and attempted suicide when the family insists he could never do that?
