“I am Tired , Absolutely Tired” Devastated Mama Ebby Laments Over The Long Wait For Justice

Date:

Hundreds of Kenyans joined the mother of Ebby Noelle Samwel in a peaceful protest demanding justice over her death.

The walk began from Jevanjee gardens to the office of the president in a bid to push authorities to take action against those responsible for Ebby’s death.

The 15-year old who was a student at CCM Gatanga girls highschool(now St. Anuarite Gatanga Girls), died in March 2019 inside the school dormitory after being assaulted by her teachers for donning a hairstyle that was not acceptable in school.

That came just a month after she had joined form one at the school. Prior to her joining, her mother had attempted to seek a transfer letter so that Ebby could join another school  but the request was rejected .

The mother claims that her daughter was hated because she was beautiful while lamenting the long period that she has waited for justice over her daughter’s death.

“They had promised to actually move with speed to ensure that prosecution is done. All the offices that I have been to today, they have promised, the office of the Inspector General, we were received, they promised to actually move with speed to ensure that this is investigated and prosecuted, the administrator at CSMatiang’i’s office promised us that this will move up the ladder and we will see prosecution,” she said.

She further called upon DCI to take action against those responsible( the school principal and her deputy) for Ebby’s death instead of offering her lip service.

“I want DCI to do what they said they are doing. I don’t want lip service, I am tired , absolutely tired. I am not an investigator, if I was I would have done that and completed. Three years is a long time, kids have been in school for a long time, they should have gotten those statements a long time and actually put these women in jail,” Mama Ebby said.

“These two women need to be in jail, they are criminals  and murderers, I don’t care what political affiliations are one day we will  we will face each other face to face,” she added.

On the eve of the peaceful protests, DCI shared an update on the murder saying that detectives took over the matter on January 10. The school had claimed that she fell from the bed on the night of March 8-9, only for her classmates to  notice her motionless body.

DCI however established that the school was intimidating witnesses and opted to take their statements after the closure of schools and the statements contradicted the school’s narrative.

” The team has established that on the fateful night, Ebby had been assaulted severely by a senior member of the school’s administration on allegations that her hair had been styled contrary to school regulations.

“This happened during evening preps time, minutes before the 9pm bedtime bell rang. Ebby retired to bed that night with severe injuries. That was the last time Ebby’s friends saw her alive, as their efforts to wake her up the following morning turned futile,” read DCI’s statement.

An autopsy conducted on Ebby’s body confirmed that she died as a result of blunt force trauma, due to head injury.
