Hypocrisy! Raila Blasts Government For Continually Blaming Uhuru’s Regime

Date:

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has said that Kenyans are currently suffering seriously.

In an interview with Citizen TV, the opposition leader urged the government to take remedial measures that will alleviate the suffering.

One of the ways, he suggested, to cushion Kenyans from suffering was reducing the level of taxation.

“That alone will have the effect of reducing the cost of living to some manageable levels,” the former prime minister said.

Raila also dismissed claims that the ‘handshake government’ is responsible for sinking the government into debts thus making life unbearable for Kenyans currently.

Raila noted that those blaming the previous administration were also in the government and are equally responsible for making life hard for Kenyans.

“First, there was nothing like handshake government, every Kenyan knows that. We only agreed to shake hands with Uhuru Kenyatta on the basis on the MOU that we signed after the dispute and that MOU is available. I was never in government, neither did I appoint a minister or a PS or anybody in government.

“The people who are talking of hand shake government were earning big perks of salaries and then they are saying, the country was broke. See the hypocrisy. The country can’t be ruled with hypocrisy and lies. You spread lies everyday hoping that people will believe it is the truth. Kenyans know that we were not in government. All the time we were in opposition. But those who were in government were criticizing it because they were campaigning to succeed it. They are responsible for everything that happened in that government. If they took over empty coffers, you have been in government for one year, why have you not created the funds yet?” he posed.

Raila went ahead to cite the case when he and the late Mwai Kibaki found a nearly broke country.
“We did not blame Mr. Moi we just decided to move on and initiate measures to improve the economy because when this people are talking about debts , you need money to pay those debts but tax is not the only way to raise revenue, you can actually raise revenue without increasing taxes,” he said.
At the same time, he dispelled claims that the opposition was no longer playing its oversight role.

“It is incorrect to say that the opposition has been quiet; we have talked about the oil scandal and corruption in the country; we have been talking about the cost of living every single day,” Raila said.
