President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta were the first and second recipients of the much-awaited Huduma Namba cards.
Ad the president indicated that Huduma Namba cards are now ready for rollout to Kenyans.
He was speaking at Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Gusii stadium in Kisii County today.
“We are now ready to start issuing cards to Kenyans…so that they can start getting them online and stop the long queues in government offices,” the president said.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i presented Mr Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta with the first sample Huduma Namba cards.
And Uhuru presented to the next 10 lucky Kenyans.
Dr Matiang’i said the Niims (National Integrated Identity Management System) process is now complete and awaiting rollout after Parliament vets and approves the Data Commissioner.
The card rollout process will then take off soon after, he said, in accordance with court orders.
A second mass registration for those who did not previously register will however precede the production of the cards.
Huduma namba has data merged and installed in an electronic chip hence Kenyans may no longer need to use documents such Identity Cards, NHIF and NSSF cards.
At the close of the first mass registration exercise in 2019, data of 38 million Kenyans (both adults and under-age) was captured.
