Stivo Simple Boy’s life at his old management, Made In Kibera(MIK) was a living hell to an extent that his mental wellness was affected.
Every aspect of his life including his relationship was controlled and he would not make his own decisions.
It was also not easy for him to move out of the management and get signed under his current management.
According to Gift, who is part of the Men In Business management, where Stivo is currently signed at, it took a month of back and forth to get the artist out of Made In Kibera.
“First we had to meet up with Stivo’s family and we shared our interests with them on February 2. They agreed that we could work with Stivo. The second step was to meet with the management which was the hardest,” Gift said in an interview with presenter Ali.
The management was willing to let go of Stivo as they had already given up on him and for a long time did not record any of his songs.
Made In Kibera was however not willing to release Stivo’s catalog that contained 16 songs, 11 of them had been released but 5 were just audios, as well as his social media accounts. MIK is still earning from the songs as Stivo continues to get nothing.
“They wanted us to buy his catalog and accounts. We asked them how much we were looking at and Oyoo(Stivo’s former manager) said that it would be hard to state the figure we had to sit down with the family because the family also handled money but at the end of the meeting it was like we should start from the scratch because they were not handing over,” she said.
For the time Stivo has been in the industry under MIK since going viral, he has made a lot of money and the fruits of that are not visible.
“When he had a meeting with Stivo, we asked him about the highest amount of money that he made on performances and he said half a million,” Gift said.
He however never got the money saying that satan used some people to swindle it.
MIK had also signed an agreement with Ngomma about sharing money he earns on YouTube but the artist was kept in the dark about it.
Gift admitted that Stivo’s life was not good and does not match that of a person who is known in the music industry. MIK had also moved him from Kibera where he enjoyed local support to an interior place in Kayole where he did not know anybody thus affecting his mental status.
Gift however blamed some of Stivo’s brothers as well for the state that he was in.
“I wouldn’t just blame it on the management, his family also played a big role, his brothers were the one handling the money. There is a brother who was in charge of the bank account, Stivo did not have the pin. Not all his brothers, not his sister but some of them were eating his money,”Gift said.
She however says that Stivo is now at peace and feels at home at MIB.
