How My Son Helped Me Accept Myself- Apostle With Functional Male And Female Private Parts Opens Up

Date:

Apostle Darlan Rukih from Ndhiwa in Homa Bay county was born with both female and male private parts.

This made his childhood life challenging since neither girls and boys wanted to associate with him. That made her spend most of the time with his mother and growing up, he would prefer to be alone so that his sexuality was not questioned.

As a child she looked more female but around 17 years she was more of a man.

Speaking to Kenya Diaspora TV,  the apostle said that she is a mother and at the same time a father.

“I was born with both private parts, both male and female, I was brought up by my mother just like that but my mother used to hide that because of the fear that I could get killed first since I was born out of wedlock in the home of her husband,” Apostle Darlan said.

Darlan is the lastborn among five children from her mother and all his siblings were born normal unlike him.

As a child, he did not see any problem but when he began experiencing monthly periods that was when the reality of the matter hit him.

“When I was taken to the hospital at around 14 years when I started my periods, the doctor confirmed that I had both private parts and there was no way they would stop menstruation. That made me cry,” the Apostle said.

At that point he thought of committing suicide since he had never encountered anyone with a condition like that.

Darlan is married to a woman whom they met at a church function. The woman got interested in the Apostle but his mother played a big role in ensuring that they became an item.

“When my mother so that she was getting close to me and it was something that she had hoped for so that she can be wiped of the shame of having an intersex child. She convinced her to get into marriage with me,” Darlan narrated.

At a point however, the woman changed and began disrespecting him and insulting him publicly but he would not confront her because she would threaten to expose his weakness.

They however stayed in marriage for over six years before being blessed with a baby boy, who helped the apostle accept his condition.

Darlan would take his son to school but would not get out of the car because he did not want his son to face stigma. His son however wondered why his father would always stay in the car yet other children were taken to school by their fathers.

“For a long time he questioned me why I would not take him yet other children wanted to see his father as well. One day I opened up and told him the truth,” he said.

His son cried a lot but the next day he woke up earlier than usual  and went to him asking whether he is the one who made himself that way or if it was the plan of God.

“He told me that I am an apostle of God and asked if I was confirming to him that God made a mistake,” Apostle Darlan explained.

He agreed that God did not make a mistake and his son told him to accompany him to school from that day and that changed his perception about himself.
