How Kisumu Child Trading Syndicate Is Making A Fortune By ‘Selling’ Unborn Babies

Date:

Details have emerged on how a child trading syndicate in Ahero, Kisumu is  making a fortune by selling newborns and striking deals before they are even born.

An investigative piece by NTV unmasked the leaders of the illegal business as Stephen Odhiambo and Nelson Mandela who poses as a clinical officer at the Ahero County Hospital.

The media house journalists embarked on the investigations after receiving reports from anonymous people about the illegal business.

In a bid to unmask those involved in the business, journalists got a fake couple who posed as buyers. The couple claimed they worked in one of the embassies in Nairobi just to convince the suspects that they could manage the price of buying a baby.

The couple later met with the suspects in a hotel where they opened up on how they carry out their business.

“Girls are desperate, they get pregnant, those responsible for pregnancies abandon them. Maybe they are still living with their parents and there is nothing they do. They always tell us. Firstly, they come with the aim of doing an abortion and during the engagement, they open up asking if there is a place they can take the babies so that is how it starts,” Mandela said.

At that point, they inform the desperate mothers to be of people who are in need of children.

The two further revealed that they have successfully sold two newborns, a girl at Kshs800,000 and a baby boy at Kshs1 millions.

For the couple’s case, they struck a deal with a woman who was identified as Emily Ochieng’.  She was set to deliver anytime and they had reached an agreement to sell the baby at Kshs1 million if it turns out to be a boy and Kshs800,000 for a girl.

The couple however insisted on meeting the mother to be and she was called to the hotel where they got to know each other.

The couple later established that the agreement between her and the suspects would have seen her get Kshs100,000 since they had informed her that they would sell her child at Kshs150,000. Aside from that, Emily’s reasons for selling her child contradicted that of the suspects.

The suspects said that she was to travel to Dubai and that is why she was giving up her child. Emily, a single mother of three, however revealed that she was selling the child due to financial constraints.
