How Electric Pressure Cooker Preparing Githeri For Ksh20 Works

Date:

Kenya Power Chief Executive Officer Joseph Siror on Tuesday, September 5 affirmed that preparing githeri using an electric pressure cooker would only cost Ksh20.

The Kenya Power CEO informed Kenyans that using electric pressure cookers is less costly compared to both gas and charcoal.

Another video shared by Kenya Power on Thursday, September 7, demonstrated how the cooking is done, taking 60 minutes for the githeri to be ready to serve.

Features of Electric Pressure Cooker

According to Pika na Power an initiative run by Kenya Power to encourage Kenyans to use electricity for cooking, an electric pressure cooker consists of the lid, inner pot, and the body.

Wairimu Njehia, Pika na Power demonstrator further indicated that the inner pot on the pressure cooker is a removable pot made from aluminum or stainless steel.

Electric Pressure cookers are specially designed with safety valves and smart control boxes which are fitted with sensors to monitor temperate. They also monitor the pressure of the removable inner pot.

Additionally, they are fitted with microprocessors that control heating, timing, and the entire githeri cooking process.

They are also fitted with an alarm system that sounds off in case of an emergency during the cooking process. During an emergency, the electric pressure cookers cut off the power supply.

“Using approved electric-powered appliances such as pressure cookers is ideal as they are efficient and also come with minimal to no side effects to the users.

“Boiling half a kilogram of yellow beans would cost Ksh5 which is seven times cheaper than using charcoal or gas,” Kenya Power stated.

Prices and Costs of Cooking

They vary from Ksh6,000 to Ksh20,000 depending on size and model.

According to Kenya Power, a pressure cooker is ideal for preparing foods that take time to be ready.

With less than Ksh20 a family can prepare a meal using an electric pressure cooker.
