How A Suspect In The Murder Of High School Student Sold Himself Out On Facebook

A boda boda rider from Kakamega County is being treated as the prime suspect in the murder of a form four student from Kibera High School.

John Odinga, a resident at Emenyasa was arrested by the police after uploading his photo on the Facebook account of the deceased identified as Cynthia Makokha.

It is alleged that Odinga Used the deceased’s phone to upload the photo.

The student met her death under unclear circumstances a week ago while on her way home to attend her mother’s funeral but did not make it to her grandmother’s place for the burial.

It is alleged that the student embarked on a journey from Nairobi to her rural home in Kakamega county on October 4 before meeting her untimely death.

On the day she was travelling, she informed her father that she was boarding  motorcycle at 7 pm but took longer than usual to arrive her destination thus causing panic among her family members.

“We tried to call her when we realized she was taking longer than usual, but her phone was off,” the father, Christopher Makanga, said.

The family tried to find her whereabouts but their efforts were futile until they noticed that the her facebook account was still active.

This prompted the family to file a report with the police and the suspect was tracked down.

On Monday October 11, her body was discovered floating on the Lusumu River by locals who reported the case to Mumias police station.

The police have since established that she boarded Odinga’s motorcycle.

Michael Omwanda who is the Shianda bodaboda chairman further accused the suspect of being a criminal involved in child kidnapping and robbery incidents.

Omwanda said that the suspect was once nabbed by the police for stealing and trafficking two children to Busia but was later released.

“He had the intention of selling the two children but the plan hit the wall when he was nabbed by locals,” Omwanda said.

The body of the deceased is currently in the morgue of the Kakamega general and referral hospital awaiting an autopsy.
