Date:

A 2-month old baby in Ndiwa Subcounty has lost his life after falling into a hot pot of boiling porridge.

According to a report by Citizen digital, the incident occurred during a confrontation between the deceased’s mother and her chama colleagues.

The minor has been identified as Sheldon Churchill.

The report reveals that about 20 chama women visited  Shedldon’s mother to demand Kshs1,700 that she owed to the self help group.

“The child’s mother Sharon Auma, 19, says about 20 of her Chamaa members went into her house to collect a debt she owed them but she did not have the money, leading to a violent confrontation between them,” the local media house reported.

She had borrowed Kshs2,500 but had only managed to pay 800.

During the visit, the members wanted to confiscate 16koros of maize in Sharon’s house to cater for her debt.

Sharon however fought hard in a bid to prevent them from entering her room where the maize was stored. At the time she was carrying her baby.

“It was during that confrontation that Auma claims two women pushed her, making the baby she was carrying to fall in the boiling porridge. She was trying to deny the group members entry into her bedroom, where the dry maize was kept,” the report stated.

The minor died as he was being rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital . His body has since been moved to Manyatta Kabodo mortuary.

The incident was confirmed  area Assistant Benson Adongo.

“He died in Rodi Kopany Township on the way to the referral hospital where the family and neighbours were taking him for treatment,” Adongo said.
