Havi Dismisses Ruto Allies On Pandora Papers, Says Uhuru Had Money Before

Date:

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has come out guns blazing to defend president Uhuru Kenyatta following a recent pandora papers expose.

According to Nelson Havi, the Kenyan head of state made legal wealth prior to taking over the top office, hence it was uncalled for to spread propaganda on private investments.

“On the Pandora papers, President Uhuru was rich before he became president. If he acquired his property legally, then that’s his property. Let us not be propagandists.”- Said Nelson Havi.

Thus, the LSK president reiterated that there is nothing wrong with investing outside as long as there is no suspicion with regards to the source of the money in offshore accounts.

His sentiments came at a time when politicians allied to deputy president William Samoei Ruto have been castigating President Uhuru Kenyatta over the recent pandora papers expose.

The Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday also said that there was no problem with president Uhuru Kenyatta having offshore bank accounts.

According to the opposition chief, he has no issue with the recent pandora expose as long as president Uhuru or anyone out there is in a position to account for their money.

Raila Odinga further made it clear that all his accounts and properties are in Kenya and that he has never contemplated having any property or any offshore account.

In the meantime, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent response on Pandora papers reveals that he may not go down alone after the expose which shook the country.

According to the head of state, Pandora papers and subsequent audits will provide a chance to bring to light the dark secrets, especially by those Kenyans who cannot explain their sources of wealth.

Besides, president Uhuru Kenyatta who was out of the country said that he would give a full and a comprehensive report of the pandora papers once he jets back into the country.

“My attention has been drawn to comments surrounding the Pandora Papers. Whilst I will respond comprehensively on my return from my State Visit to the Americas, let me say this:

“That these reports will go a long way in enhancing the financial transparency and openness that we require in Kenya and around the globe. The movement of illicit funds, proceeds of crime and corruption thrive in an environment of secrecy and darkness.

“The Pandora Papers and subsequent follow up audits will lift that veil of secrecy and darkness for those who can not explain their assets or wealth. Thank you.”, Wrote His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in a short statement.
