ODM Mombasa County Chairman Mohamed Hatimy Passes On

Nominated MCA and ODM Chairman of Mombasa County Mohamed Hatimy has passed on, according to information shared by his family.

Hatimy is suspected to have succumbed to Covid-19 related complications at Mombasa Hospital on Saturday, November 14.

The MCA is one of the seven lawmakers who is said to have tested positive leading to the temporary closure of the assembly on October 27.

“He passed on at 3 am. He was suffering from a lung infection,” Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Khatri stated.

ODM party confirmed the news on its social media pages, mourning the deceased as a great man and leader.

“A beautiful soul has stopped beating. A great man has fallen. The ODM family has lost a good man and leader.

Hon. Mohamed Hatimy, our Mombasa County Chairman and a second-term nominated MCA in the County Assembly of Mombasa is dead. We shall miss you kiongozi,” reads the statement by ODM.

The Mombasa County Assembly Deputy Speaker Fadhili Makarani on October 27, confirmed the suspended sittings for two weeks after four members and three staffers reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Makarani directed all MCAs to go undergo self-isolation for the two-week.

Hatimy was a man of many hats, having served as the Former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Chairman.

The vocal lawmaker will be remembered as a leader who fought for the rights of the federation.
