Cotu Secretary general Francis Atwoli has broken silence after the Supreme Court upheld the election of William Ruto as the fifth president of Kenya.
Taking to social media, Atwoli swallowed his pride and congratulated Ruto following a decision that the union had agreed upon in a meeting last month.
“During COTU (K) Executive Board meeting on 17th August, we resolved THAT immediately after the Supreme Court judgment, we must thank and congratulate the victor. Consequently, we congratulate President William Ruto. We appeal to workers and Kenyans in general to remain peaceful,” he wrote.
Atwoli is among the people who were adamant that Ruto will never be president in Kenya especially in the 2022 general elections.
In June this year, he accused Ruto of being corrupt in government tenders and being behind he high cost of living saying that that is why he won’t lead the country.
Seems that his view about Ruto began changing when IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati announced him as winner of the general elections because last month, he went ahead to list some of the conditions for him to accept Ruto as president.
““We have advised Raila to follow the law and await the court’s decision. Ruto also said he will accept the court’s final decision. If the two agree with the court’s decision, then who are we? to reject it?” he recently said.
