Who Is Laughing Now? The Day William Ruto Faced The Worst Humiliation In Presence Of Uhuru

Date:

The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the victory of William Ruto in the August 9 general election, dismissing the 7 petitions that were against his election including that of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The court’s decision was welcomed joyfully with Ruto and his supporters while their opponents bitterly respected the court’s decision but disagreed with it.

On the other hand, outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta questioned the criteria in which the court used to arrive at its decision but he agreed to hand over power.

“We must ask ourselves, is it about numbers or is it about the process? Which of these two is it? Can our institutions rule one way in one election and another way in another election without scrutiny?” he posed.

Uhuru and Ruto have not been on good terms since he became friends with Raila in 2018. The handshake is seen as a major reason for their fallout such that the president neither delegated duties to his deputy nor even dared to shake his hand when they met in public.

Ruto however faced the worst humiliation during the unveiling of the Building Bridges Initiative report at the Bomas of Kenya on November 27, 2019 with now a section of Kenyans using the popular phrase who is laughing now while referring to the incident.

First of all, on arrival at the Bomas, Ruto was left hanging outside a door where Raila and Uhuru engaged in a private conversation.

Inside Bomas as speakers made their remarks which some targeted Ruto and Uhuru’s fallout, the outgoing president was captured laughing uncontrollably as he engaged with Raila from time to time. Throughout the whole session, Ruto was gloomy and seemed to be in deep thoughts.

The same day, the majority of the people who stood with him after the grand fallout were denied a chance to speak. Only Kipchumba Murkomen and Aden Duale, who were then majority leaders in the Senate and National Assembly respectively addressed the audience but they were heckled.

Aside from that, Ruto’s convoy was only cleared to leave after Uhuru and Raila had left Bomas. Ruto reportedly sat by the co-drivers seat and watched as the duo left. Some of the delegates from the meeting are said to have shouted at him for opposing his boss.
