DPP Drops Charges Against Three Ruto Allies Accused Of Causing Chaos In Kabuchai By-elections

Date:

The Director Of Public Prosecution has dropped charges against three allies of Deputy president William Ruto.

The three had been accused of causing violence during the Kabuchai by-elections in March this year.

Charges against Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, Nandi MP Wilson Kogo and Belgut’s Nelson Koech were dropped due to lack of evidence.

However, charges against Kimilili MP didmus Barasa were  not dropped and his case will be brought back to court on September 25.

The four were accused of felony as well as preventing officers from taking their finger prints.

They however claimed that their arrests had been politically motivated so as to prevent them from overseeing the elections on behalf of their UDA candidate.

Speaking after their acquittal, the three leaders wondered why charges against them were withdrawn while one of them was still being charged yet they were arrested together.

They have vowed to continue supporting DP Ruto even if they get arrested.

The hotly contested March 4 by-election saw Ford Kenya’s Majimbo Kalasinga  defeat his 7 opponents. Kalasinga garnered 19,274 votes which represented 65 per cent of the total votes cast.

UDA’s Evans Kakai followed with a total of got 6,455 votes representing 22 per cent of the votes.
