DCI Blasts Chebukati For Feeding Kenyans With Lies And Misleading Information

Date:

The fight between the electoral commission, IEBC, and DCI over the detention of three IEBC personnel who were nabbed at JKIA with election materials is brewing with DCI now calling out on IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for lying and misleading Kenyans.

Earlier, IEBC, through a statement by Chebukati, complained of its personnel being harrassed and election materials(stickers) being confiscated at JKIA by the OCS Anti Terror Police Unit.

Contrary to the National Police Service statement, Chebukati maintained that three of their personnel were detained and not one and the stickers were still being held by the OCS-ATPU

“Whereas the impression created by the press release is that the personnel have been released, the release was conditional as they have to appear before the OCS-Anti Terror Police Unit on July 26th 2022 which inevitably affects the performance of their duties,” he lamented.

Apart from the stickers, other materials that IEBC claims were confiscated include  laptops, mobile phones and flash disks which “contain important and sensitive” information relating to the forthcoming elections as well as projects undertaken by them for other countries.”

In an evening statement however, DCI said no person working with IEBC had been detained at the ATPU unit.

The Directorate hereby clarifies that no such persons have been detained; or any other person working for IEBC anywhere in the territory of the Republic of Kenya. Further, the DCI has no such office known as ‘OCS Anti Terrorism Police Unit’ in our structure,” part of the statement read.

DCI directed Kenyans to disregard the statement by IEBC and promised to issue a comprehensive statement on the issue on Saturday.

“The statement issued by the IEBC Chairman is not only inaccurate, but also misleading to the public and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.,” DCI said
