Outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced his next move as his tenure in the cabinet comes to an end.
On Monday, Magoha revealed that he will go back to being a lecturer. He however did not give details of where he will be practicing the profession from. Aside from that, he said that he will also practice his medical profession.
“I am also going back to my surgical clinic just to do a little because I want to enjoy life like the others. I believe that I have given enough back to society,” Magoha said.
Before joining the cabinet as Education CS, Magoha served as the chairman of Kenya National Examination Council from 2016-2019. He was the Vice Chancellor of University of Nairobi from 2005-2015. He taught urological surgery and was also a medical lecturer at Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
The CS joined the Cabinet in March 26, 2019, taking over from Amina Mohammed who was transferred to the Sports, Culture and Heritage docket
Earlier in September, Magoha said that he would be willing to work with president William Ruto if offered an opportunity. He was also quoted asking Ruto to grant him an opportunity to complete what he started in the ministry.
“I have enjoyed serving President Uhuru Kenyatta as Education CS. But if President-elect Ruto was to offer me an opportunity to serve in government again, I will have a discussion with him and consider that. That said I am not looking for a job,” the CS said.
He will be remembered for transitioning the Kenyan Education system from 8-4-4 to the Competency Based Curriculum one as well as sealing loopholes for cheating in National Examinations.
Former Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu was named as Magoha’s successor and will take up the responsibilities once he is vetted by parliament.
